Cut the weight of your cleats in half while getting 4x the life expectancy. Brass cleats are soft and wear quickly, while 3D printed titanium is much harder and half the weight.

SILCA LIMITED WARRANTY

Parts covered by SILCA Limited Warranty are considered to be subject to wear through normal use or are consumable subject to degradation through the course of their daily use.  SILCA guarantees them free from manufacturer defects for 2 years.

Traditionally, mountain cleats have only had two material options. Mild steel and brass. This has largely been to ensure that the cleat wore out faster than the pedal interface, but has left us with cleats that are often times very fast wearing, and in all cases, are quite heavy.
Enter 6/4 Titanium, only slightly less hard than tool or spring steel used in the pedals, it's a remarkable 2.25 times stronger and 3 times tougher than brass or mild steel. Best of all, the extreme toughness and abrasion resistance of 6Al/4V titanium means that you can expect 300-400% wear life compared to traditional materials.
Now we couldn't just stop there, but by combining 3D printing technology with this material that is 1/3 lighter than steel, we are able to achieve a cleat with internal lattice structure (called a gyroid) which maintains stiffness and strength while reducing weight to create a cleat set that is HALF the weight of a standard cleat set.
This savings of 25-30 grams per set of cleats is significant over time, particularly in CX events where running is crucial.
25gm reduction x 100 rpm = 180kg of mass not lifted per hour of riding, 90kg per leg!

    Pretty good cleats

I bought a pair of these (Crank Brothers) when they first came out and installed them on a pair Specialized Recon 3. As others have mentioned the screws are too long and protrude into the shoe a small amount. I fixed that by using the screws from the stock cleats.

The titanium alloy in these cleats doesn't move the same as the brass in the stock cleats, but it's not bad. If anything it's better.

I bought a second pair of cleats for a pair of Chrome Kursk AW shoes. Those clears were different than my first pair, they didn't engage or disengage the same and generally felt a little different.

It took me a long time to realize both sets of cleats were different heights, that it wasn't just a difference in shoe soles. I have two pair of cleats and rotated them around 3 pair of shoes, the third being a pair of (PEdALED branded) Fizik Terra.

Just a moment ago I reached for a caliper after finally noticing the difference in the cleats and sure enough, they are different heights. I have no idea which are the new ones or the old ones.

On a positive note, they last a very long time. I can't tell the old from the new cleats based on wear.

I plan to keep using these and even buy more.

    Good Cleat

The Titanium cleat for Crank Brothers works well. Install and forget, with weight lower than the original brass ones by 13 grams for the set.

The only complaint is the Ti Hardware was actually non-functional for my installation since I needed the shorter bolts than the ones provided by Silca, and Silca currently does not produce the shorter bolts. The Crank Brothers cleats came with two sets of two different lengths. Perhaps with next round of production, Silca can have customers choose the correct bolts. Otherwise, the Ti bolts are just decorative in my tool box. (and advertising enticement but non functional)

    Very disappointing life span

On arrival these seemed great, the finishing on the hardware is very nice. However, after what I would consider fairly limited use (circa 2000km based on my best estimate) they were no longer retaining in the pedal correctly and Silca advised me that this was wear related and not covered by warranty. While I can’t blame them for that, I would dispute the longevity claims made by Silca for my use case (mixture of road, gravel, mtb and bikepacking), as standard Shimano cleats have seen effectively identical use on other shoes and have lasted far longer.

    SILCA

Cleat wear is extremely individual as dirt, sand, water, frequency of insertions, etc can all drastically change the life expectancy. With these cleats they are intended to be race specific and would be expected to outlast the Shimano cleat that is twice the weight in steel.

    Amazing durability

I tend to tear through the brass Crank Bros. cleats and swapped these onto my mountain shoes. After tearing up another pair of brass cleats at a very wet and muddy race, I snagged another pair for my winter shoes. The picture is after a long racing and riding season. The engagement with the pedals is still firm and confidence inspiring.
