When we launched secret chain lube, Josh admitted that the starting point for this product was a hot wax recipe he had used for years with pro teams that had won numerous world and Olympic medals. The idea behind Secret Chain Lube was to bring this technology to a lube that didn't require hot melting but turns out, many of our customers were already big fans of hot waxing chains, and the requests flooded in for us to release the SILCA Secret Wax Blend.. so here it is!
Wax Chain Maintenance with Super Secret Chain Lube
I was a bit skeptical about wax, but once the chain is stripped, it’s easy to keep the chain waxed. Plus , my bikes are quiet and it’s so easy to keep my MTB and CX drivetrain clean.
Using this product is so easy AND NOT time consuming! I now use two chains and rewax about every 300 miles. I wipe the chain down with a little alcohol and microfiber towel after every ride and use super secret chain lube every other ride or so. I do clean chain with boiling water and let dry while I am heating the wax every time I rewax a chain and since I am alternating chains, I always have a freshly waxed chain to put on.
I cannot make a big enough point of how easy it is to rewax a chain. sure the initial clean of a new chain takes a bit of time, but that should be done whether you use this product or not. However, rewaxing takes very little time and you have a brand new looking chain. I could not believe how easy this was to do. Most importantly, chain life is incredible...after 3 months and 2500 miles (between the 2 chains) I cannot measure any chain wear with my park chain checker! Some of these rides were in wet conditions (I always rewax after a wet ride!....not to mention how great this is for my gravel bike in really sandy conditions.
Just checked the chain after about 1500 miles. SRAM eagle in excellent condition! Just bought a fresh bag of wax for this season as I rotate 4 chains for 2 bikes. I always dip the chains at around 2 - 4 hundred miles but I use Super Secret in between to ensure everything stays covered.
Some people just don't care and ride their bikes w/o almost any maintenance. Others sparingly clean and lube their bikes. But there's a large group of cyclists that pays huge attention to drive cleanness and thus efficiency. after carefully studying ZFC I decided to jump on the waxing wagon. Living in Europe there aren't many options available, but it's not an issue, as per ZFC Silca's Wax is one of the top choices. Just buy a cheap crockpot in Lidl or Amazon and spend some time to clean your new chain (cleaning a used one is a PITA but doable). In return you will receive a low maintenance, VERY CLEAN and thus silent and precise drivetrain. No more grease smears, less wear and peace of mind. If you are eyeballing hot waxing then any drawbacks imposed by the waxing process are not an issue for you.
great product, truly nice to be waxing and having a clean chain.
Came to know this product through ZeroFrictionCycling which has outstanding informations on lubricants topics.
4 stars because it is far more expensive than MoltenSpeedWax while not being any different according to ZFC's testing
