When we launched secret chain lube, Josh admitted that the starting point for this product was a hot wax recipe he had used for years with pro teams that had won numerous world and Olympic medals. The idea behind Secret Chain Lube was to bring this technology to a lube that didn't require hot melting but turns out, many of our customers were already big fans of hot waxing chains, and the requests flooded in for us to release the SILCA Secret Wax Blend.. so here it is!
Wax Chain Maintenance with Super Secret Chain Lube
Haven’t had the time to use it yet (next week maybe) but can not wait to use it. Do I melt the whole bag or just enough for the chain?????
Great product! I now use SILVA secret chain wax on all 6 of my bikes. This product covers all conditions and all bikes: road, gravel, fat bike (winter), MTB Trail and MTB Cross-County.
This is a great product and something I am very glad to have switched over to. I have now waxed my chains for both my commuting bicycle and my road bicycle. Silca has provided great step by step guides, and as long as you have the correct setup the prep and waxing should be very easy. The ride quality is excellent and it is very nice to maintain a clean chain ride after ride. While a lot of focus is on the performance side and benefits, I would note that for the commuter and casual rider would get a lot of benefit from waxing as well.
Works as advertised
With a new bike and the hunt for cleanliness, in addition to wanting to protect components longer, I decided to try wax. The cleaning process was longer than anticipated, but equally rewarding touching a perfectly clean and degreased chain. The process to wax the chain was too simple, despite mistakenly adding the master/quick link into the wax. Future note: do not include the master/quick link and use the liquid wax after installation. Breaking the links free of wax was fun, and stress releasing, yet installation on the bike caused stress to increase. The grinding metal on metal noise and clunkyness of it all had me thinking 'what did I do?' Retuned to more YouTube, more articles, was assured that riding for 15-30mins is needed. Things settled down around 10mins and continued to improve over the first 60mins. Chain is now waxed, clean, and decently quiet. The noise may be more than with Dry Lube, but is not more than the road noise generated by the tires. I will continue to monitor ride over ride and see the longevity it brings to the components! I'll try and check back in when the chain hits 15,000km. 😀
