Meaning Brick, in Italian, the Mattone is SILCA's award winning seat bag powered by the Boa Closure System.
With the new Mattone Grande, we have now created a 'bigger brick' with .74L of internal volume almost 2x the volume of the original Mattone (.41). The Mattone Grande is capable of holding up to 3 road tubes along with 2 CO2 cartridges, 2 tire levers and a multi-tool. It can also easily hold up to two 29x2.5 MTB tubes along with CO2, levers and Multi-tool, the Mattone Grande is ideal for those long adventure rides or races where you must be prepared for everything.
Similar to the original Mattone, a high friction Hypalon strap with BOA® Closure completes the package. Making more than 15x the power of Velcro®, the BOA® Closure uses a ratcheting mechanism that will not creep or loosen even under the most extreme vibration and impact. This ensures the Mattone will remain ‘high and tight’ under your saddle until you need to access it... no swinging, swaying, or rattling... ever!

I am the type of person who probably carries more gear in their seat bag than they should. I guess I am generally OK with being over-prepared than the weight penalty I am paying. This habit has meant that over the years my seat bag has gotten bigger and bigger. the Mattone Grande is the perfect remedy for my problem! I can get everything I need in the bag and more and I am not paying a huge penalty in size or aero penalties.
I have the smaller Mattone saddle roll that couldn't quite handle all the bits and pieces I like to carry on a road ride, so I upgraded. The Mattone Grande has more than enough room for the extra tube, Italian Army Knife Tredici, CO2 Inflator, two cartridges, tire levers, and nitrile gloves, and is quite well constructed and durable. I've had my current Mattone for over six years. Silca makes and carries high-quality reliable products, highly recommended.
After switching saddles I had to stop using my Seat Roll because it simply would not stay in place, even fell open one day and I lost my multi-tool to a dark road. I used an Arundel bag for a while but it was a little small since I use 32c tires and carry a big tube. The Mattone Grande has space for that big tube, two CO2s, and inflator head, tire levers, multi-tool, even my small kit with bandages, emergency patches and tire boots, and tweezers and there is still some room to spare. The wide straps and the Boa closure have me convinced it will not move. Does it look sleek and super aero? Not really, but neither do I. If you want a "bag" that will stay in place, and hold everything you want to carry, this is it.
I really like this bag. It takes a bit to figure out how to arrange your gear inside it for maximum room, but once that is done, it holds a ton in a small package. I would give it five stars if it had a strap to clip a light onto it when it is mounted on the bike.
